Convention Theme: Justice and Mercy
We especially welcome papers that seek to explore the dynamics of the interrelationship between justice and mercy as social virtues, as well as papers on how both themes have featured prominently in the addresses and teachings of Pope Francis to date. Papers exploring contextual and methodological perspectives from and in relation to Latin America and the Caribbean are also greatly welcome. Papers that reflect upon what the Year of Mercy might best achieve in terms of global social justice are also welcome as would be proposals that explore how Pope Francis and an attentiveness to mercy might help transform the political, economic and social climate in our times. Also welcome would be papers exploring biblical, historical and conceptual treatments of justice and mercy in relation to differing challenges, contexts and traditions.
Proposals should be 250 words in length, give the name and institution of all participants, and include presenter’s contact information. Please also provide a 100 word précis to be used in the online program posted on the web. Any A.V. needs must be clearly articulated in the proposal.
CTSA guidelines require that those making proposals ordinarily be Active or Associate members of the Society in good standing with their dues current. Anyone with an associate or full membership application on file can also submit a proposal if they expect to be accepted for membership in the upcoming June convention. No member may present a paper/respond to a paper/participate on a panel more than once at a given convention. An exception is made for members of under‐represented groups, not including presentations made to the Women’s Consultation on Constructive Theology. A new CTSA rule stipulates that a member may not present more than two years in a row.
Please submit all proposals to this year’s session convener, Gerard Mannion firstname.lastname@example.org.
Submission deadline is Sept. 1 (notification date is Sept. 14).
