Tenure-Track Asst Professor in Latina/o Theology

The University of Dayton, Department of Religious Studies, seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with a specialization in Latina/o theology in the context of Catholicism in the United States. The Department of Religious Studies offers introductory and advanced courses in the University’s Common Academic Program for undergraduates, supports a vibrant major and minor in Religious Studies, offers M.A.s in Theology and Pastoral Ministry, and features a Ph.D. in Theology, with a focus on U.S. Catholic experience. In light of the University’s mission as a Catholic and Marianist institution, the position requires a demonstrated promise for excellence in teaching, an active engagement in scholarly research in the field of Latina/o theology, and a recognized potential for service and leadership within the Department, University and community. Applicants with ABD status nearing completion will be considered; preference will be given to those applicants who will have an earned doctorate at the time of appointment (August 16, 2013). Preference will be given to those able to contribute in significant ways to all departmental degree programs, those with undergraduate teaching experience (particularly with students from diverse backgrounds) and those able to promote the multi- and interdisciplinary scholarship on U.S. Catholicism that is the hallmark of the Department. The ability to contribute to other interdisciplinary programs at the University, such as Human Rights Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and International Studies, is also desirable.
