Call for Papers:
“. . . what Christ's rule means in actuality can ultimately only be expressed in prophetic signs. It is the saints who are the practical interpretation of Christ's will for any particular period” (Walter Kasper, Jesus the Christ, p. 266).
In keeping with the 2011 convention theme, “All of the Saints,” the Christ Topic Session invites proposals for two papers on how a saint exemplifies and witnesses to a Christology. The paper should not be, therefore, “The Christology of St. X.” The proposed paper, rather, should find evidence in the witness of a saint’s life for real and various Christological insights. Of course, the saint’s writings or writings about the saint’s life may be employed as such evidence. The paper could also take the form of demonstrating how a particular Christological theme or category might shed light on the life of a particular saint, or how a saint drew upon Christology in order to imitate Christ or to live the Gospel. The selecting of a saint or saints should be creative and imaginative so that the topic has a freshness and newness about it.
Proposals should be between 200-500 words and include the author’s name, institution, and contact information. The deadline for submission is September 1, 2010. Notification of acceptance for presentation will be given by September 24, 2010. Please articulate in the proposal any audio-visual support required. Authors of accepted papers must submit a 100 word précis by October 6. Recall that CTSA policy limits presenters to one speaking role on the convention program. Please send proposals to Thomas Weinandy at tweinandy@usccb.org.
