Call for Papers:

The Administrative Team for the Catholic Social Thought Topic Session invites proposals for papers or panels that engage Catholic Social Thought from a perspective informed by the 2011 CTSA convention theme, “All the Saints.”  Some themes and questions that papers or panels might explore include the following:

• In what ways has Catholic Social Thought contributed to the renaming of holiness in modern times?
• Is the call for prophetic action in society the only model of holiness in Catholic Social Thought? What others exist?
• Are there tensions?  What new forms of holiness still need to be recognized in the tradition of Catholic Social Thought?
• What is the role of the sacramental life and/or devotion to the saints in the call to social involvement embedded in Catholic Social Thought?
• How might the communion of saints exemplify and foster in us the virtue of solidarity?
• What role did the saints play in the work of some of the major figures who contributed to the tradition of Catholic Social Thought (e.g., John Ryan, Virgil Michel)?
• Who are the saints that embody Catholic social teaching?

The themes listed above are only examples of the many topics that might be explored.  Members of the CTSA are encouraged to propose additional ways of engaging Catholic Social Thought. 

Proposals should be between 200-500 words and include the author’s name, institution, and contact information.  The deadline for submission is September 1, 2010.  Notification of acceptance for presentation will be given by September 24, 2010.  A maximum of three papers will be selected for the session.  Please articulate in the proposal any audio-visual support required.  Authors of accepted papers must submit a 100 word précis by October 6.  Recall that CTSA policy limits presenters to one speaking role on the convention program.  Please send proposals to Chris Vogt at the following e-mail address: vogtc@stjohns.edu.  Please feel free to contact Chris Vogt (vogtc@stjohns.edu) concerning questions and/or additional information.
