Call for Papers:

The Karl Rahner Consultation invites proposals on the issue of the role of the communion of saints in the theology of Karl Rahner.  The theme for the CTSA 2011 Convention is “All the Saints.”  The flyer announcing the theme posed the following question as a possible area of investigation: “Why do the saints occupy such a central place in von Balthasar’s theology, and why are they rather peripheral to Rahner’s theology?"  Such a question seems to make some presuppositions about the role of the saints in Rahner’s theology and to what extent that role is or is not peripheral, so we are looking for papers that might take up questions such as: “The role of the saints in Rahner’s theology” or “What does it mean to be a saint in Rahner's theology?” or “The meaning of sainthood in Rahner’s theology” or any other creative question connecting Rahner and the saints.  We do also welcome paper proposals on other topics.

Proposals should be between 200-500 words and include the author’s name, institution, and contact information.  The deadline for submission is September 1, 2010.  Notification of acceptance for presentation will be given by September 24, 2010.  A maximum of three papers will be selected for the session.  Please articulate in the proposal any audio-visual support required.  Authors of accepted papers must submit a 100 word précis by October 6.  Recall that CTSA policy limits presenters to one speaking role on the convention program.  Please send proposals to Heidi Russell (Loyola University Chicago) via email hrussell@luc.edu
