George Vandervelde, a Canadian professor of theology from the Christian Reformed Church and an evangelical, was deeply committed to ecumenical dialogue. He served as the cochair of the Evangelical-Roman Catholic International Commission for Dialogue. He was a member of the U.S. Committee on Faith and Order and the Canadian Committee on Faith and Witness. He was especially dedicated to dialogue with the Roman Catholic Church, and he was instrumental in persuading the Chrisitian Reformed Church in North America to suppress the section from its confessions that condemned Roman Catholic theology and practice of the eucharist.
