She was smart, vibrant and funny. I have never forgotten the time we reviewed together the RS department at Santa Clara, nor the days when I was privileged to visit her at her beautiful home overlooking the lake and close to the college where she was such an institution. Her smile lives on in my memory. Sad to see you go, Mary.

Mary's collaborative and dialogical spirit in her work with Alan Russell and her interactions with fellow theologians was amazing to behold. It would be hard for me to put in words how much I appreciated my trips from Milwaukee to Chicago for a conversation with her about our mutual interests, or visits for lunch with my wife and I when we were passing through town. She was a wonderful friend, colleague, and mentor. I am sure many other will miss her charm, intellect, and warmth as much as Grace and I will.
