I will always be grateful for Bill's work on marriage and family. He was a pioneer who brought these topics to greater attention in the academy (e.g., Christian Marriage and Family: Contemporary Theological and Pastoral Perspectives, 1996, edited with Michael Lawler) while also writing for a broader public (e.g., Partners in Intimacy: Living Christian Marriage Today, 1988, co-written with his wife, Challon). Scholars who write and teach in the area of family ethics today stand on his shoulders.
